This site is a collaborative photo album of our 3-day dirt bike ride through the "rugged and torturous" northern Baja California peninsula (Mexico) during the last weekend of October, 2005. While there is mostly just a lot of photos, I've attempted to put them in order, so they somewhat tell the story of our ride.
This was a guided tour put on by Baja Bound Adventures, Inc., a top-notch and highly recommended Baja tour company. Literally everything was taken care of. All we had to do was ride, ride, ride (and eat!). It was a really great time!

Watch Chris J.'s excellent video to see what it was like to ride in Baja!

Quick facts about our ride:

  • Twelve riders plus 3 crew riders.
  • Day One's ride was 167 miles from Tecate to Mike's Sky Ranch in Arroyo San Rafael.
  • Day Two's ride was 154 miles from Arroyo San Rafael to the Mad Dog Cantina~Horsepower Ranch in Ensenada.
  • Day Three's ride was 118 miles from Ensenada back to Tecate.
  • Only one rider did not complete the entire ride (Day 3), yours truly, due to a "wardrobe malfunction". (Looks like I'll lose a big toe nail after all.)
  • We got Tim to fall for the old "fake oil puddle" trick under his bike on the first day of riding. Unfortunately, this was not documented with a photo. Rats!

Baja 1000 Race Info (Nov 18-19)

Congratulations! to Tim and Beau who came in 1st and 3rd respectively in their classes.

A little more detail from Tim's website:

"12/6/05 - Baja Bound owner/operator Tim Morton along with teammates Salvador Hernandez, Alfredo Contreras, and Jason Trubey finished 1st place 250cc Pro and 4th overall bike at last weeks SCORE Baja 1000 off road race. They rode a Pro Circuit CRF250X.
Really, no joke, 4th overall motorcycle on a little 250cc four stroke against a field of mostly XR650R bikes!"

offroad.com has a lot of interesting information and coverage of the 2005 Baja 1000 race.

Some television coverage of this year's race is noted below:

The race will be televised as a one-hour NBC Sports special in December on the NBC Television Network. Quite disappointing. It was if there were only 2 bikes (Honda A & B teams) and a handful of buggies and trophy trucks in the race.

Rent or buy the movie "Dust to Glory" about the 2003 Baja 1000, and get a much better perspective of what the race and culture is about. Documentary format, but very exciting and well filmed.

A different one-hour special will premier on the Outdoor Life Network on Sunday, Dec. 18 and another different special will air in January on the Discovery HD Network.

The popular television series ‘Monster Garage’ is also completing the filming of a two-part series to air on the Discovery Channel following the building and then racing of the No. 54 SCORE Trophy-Truck driven by Jesse James, the star of the show.
